What is Double Brushed Poly Fabric?

Read Time: 1m

Double brushed polyester knit is a 4 way stretch fashion apparel fabric made from a polyester and spandex blend. This fabric has been treated to give it the appearance of suede by brushing the surface of the fabric. It is commonly available in single or double brushed. It is soft to the touch (some describe it as buttery or soft like a peach) and was made famous by LuLaRoe as the base fabric for the majority of their garments.

The fabric has excellent colour fastness and washes well time after time; however, it is not environmentally friendly due to its polyester composition. It has a floaty drape and does not require ironing; it can be used as a base fabric for most stretch knit apparel patterns. The market offers a diverse selection of solid colours and prints. We are gradually "warming" to the idea of double brushed polyester in Australia, and as it gains popularity, you may notice a wider range of solids and prints being stocked at your local fabric shop.

Please note I no longer stock double brushed polyester fabric in my online store, after many years of self education I've decided it no aligns with my sustainability ethos and therefore prefer to curate fabrics that is gentler on our environment or has intended purpose like performance fabric (this may change as technology changes in the future).
